If you are missing one or more teeth, the gap created by those missing teeth needs to be filled in to prevent unpleasant complications. The teeth that remain can often move on their own to fill in the gap, causing problems like a bad bite or gum disease. However, a dental bridge can help keep your teeth in place and restore your bite back to normal.
We offer several solutions for dental bridges that are guaranteed to look and feel like real teeth. If you have a significant gap in your teeth, Dr. Muecke can walk you through the options and help you decide which one is best for you. Dental bridges, like crowns, can be made from a variety of materials, most notably porcelain fused to metal, which best replicates the appearance and power of natural teeth. Dr. Muecke considers all the different materials and discusses the pros and cons of each option.
A traditional bridge consists of two crowns that are placed on either side of the gap, with a fake tooth placed in between. The preparation process can be extensive, as the dentist will file existing teeth, take a mold of the affected area, and place a temporary bridge while a lab creates the permanent one based on the molding. It is during a subsequent visit that the permanent bridge is placed.
Depending on the condition of your teeth, Dr. Muecke may be able to recommend a less invasive resin-bonded bridge. In this case, the bridge is attached by porcelain “wings” that are fused to existing teeth, as opposed to having to file down perfectly healthy teeth to make room for crowns. Dr. Muecke will mention during your consultation if this option is a possibility for you. This type of bridge is just one example of Northgate Station Dentistry being on the cutting edge of technology within the field of dentistry, giving our patients the greatest range of options when it comes to their oral health.
